Photographer Edward Steichen began his photographic life in Milwaukee growing up in this house that sat on Pilgrim road in Menomonee Falls. Many of his photographs as he developed his skills were pictorials he created for designers at the local lithograph company he worked for. His early pictures were done with a 4x5 Primo Folding View Camera. He preferred dark and gray days and wrote that" things seem to melt into each other and a great feeling of peace overshadows all." I made this photograph on such a day using a 4x5 Speed Graphic in a style similar to how he may have viewed his home. The Steichen House now stands in the Old Falls Village Park in Menomonee Falls.
